Films Referenced in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction

I looked at that source list, and quite a few of those “references” seem rather tenuous at best. For example, Thurman drawing a square shape in the air is cited as a reference to the Three Little Bops cartoon, but in fact that was a widespread gesture among the zoot suit and daddy-o crowds of the 40s and 50s.

Still, other references are rather specific—such as the names of an actual character in a previous film being thrown in.

The Parent Trap is also credited for the dotted line square.

Not to mention that All That Heaven Allows gets a mention because he ordered a “Douglas Sirk” steak and because Butch picks up a chainsaw this is necessarily a tribute to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Pandora’s Box was listed on there at the time I made the list and I believe that was just because Uma Thurman has Louise Brooks’ haircut.

Guess, I wouldn’t take it too seriously. The nature of the “reference” is typically inherently tenuous.
