Not awful, just offal.
Calling this list essential is ridiculous.
More accurate: “100 In No Way Essential But Still Decent Films.”
Even then that’s a stretch.
Most of these movies are good but not great. There are a 1,000 like them. Saying that this 100 is better than some other 100 is at its heart wrong.

What is essential?
I think the idea of essential is highly subjective, many would say that Gone with the Wind, The Sound of Music or West Side Story are essential viewing, but I would not.
