Good to know that more than 90% of the “all-time greatest films” are in English, I’d hate to read all those pesky subtitles. I’m sure that “Flash Gordon” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” are far more deserving than anything by Bunuel, Mizoguchi, Ozu, Herzog, Ray, Fellini, Almodovar, or any of those other foreign weirdos.

Actually, I have the same book in Swedish, and in that version, there are a lot of Scandinavian movies listed, and a lot of American movies omitted. So I think that the film list, depending on what book you buy, is different and has a lot more local movies in it in other versions.
But you also have to remember that tastes varies, and no one has the same favorite list. I’m not sure you even have the book that this list is from, but it does say the following:
“Do the Right Thing and chose a decent film list; here’s a collection of films to get you started; some of the films make the greatest films list, the majority of them don’t. Some of the films should make the greatest films list and others need to be seen to be believed and then never seen again.”
