Mercedes Lackey, "The 500 Kingdoms" series

I could be wrong, but I don’t think The Black Swan or Firebird are part of the 500 kingdoms series. Neither books mention a force called the “tradition” and both were written well before The Fairy Godmother, the first official book in the series.
