They Shoot Pictures, Don't They - The 1000 Greatest Films (December 2008 edition)

This list already exists — 3 years ago

Here: http://www.listsofbests.com/list/591

It’s already had the December 2008 update done to it.

Yes but

Shouldn’t someone be retaining the 2007 list, then? Don’t change the old list, basically.

Then retain the old list. What’s the point of having two 2008 lists?

That other file is updated every year. If you look at the comments there, you’ll see people thanking me for updating it.

Try going to the TSPDT site yourself and do your own work. Why do you complain so much??

Okay, sorry, I lost it for a second there. I spent 9 hours updating that list on Thursday, and I get several thank yous, and a whole lot of complaint from one person.

TSPDT doesn’t actually keep the old lists. I guess you could get mad at them.

They do, however, indicate what number each of the films was on the last two versions of the list, so you could reconstruct it that way. Of if you email them, they’re really friendly people and they’ll probably send you a copy of the old versions.

I’d rather make static lists for every year instead of a dynamic one. There’s no reason why both can’t co-exist.

I would be willing to help you create static versions, since I have clearly caused you so much distress.

Oh, and I did put a comment on the other list over a week before the update came out talking about how I planned to update the list, and nobody said anything. It’s too bad you missed it and couldn’t have expressed your desire to have the list saved earlier, before I “destroyed” it.

Then I think what you’re doing is great. My initial comment was because I thought maybe you weren’t aware that the list already existed.

I have made a note on the other list that it is the dynamic version, and have stated now in several places that I would be willing to help create static versions of this and other editions of the list.

I guess, then, if you aren’t willing to do it yourself, you can’t complain when others don’t do it for you. There aren’t two people just complaining, the other guy is making his own list.

2007 lists and earlier

I have an old copy of the 2007 list and plan on creating it as another static list, so don’t worry – it shall return!

As for the 2006 list (and were there pre-2006 lists?), I have schemes in plan for data recovery… :)

Just to reiterate, please don’t consider this list a criticism of anyone else’s work – I created this for myself first and foremost. Any other interest is collateral damage, so to speak…

I only discovered the list in 2006, but I thought it had existed for a while already. Seriously, the guys that run the site are really great, I’m sure they’d email you an excel file with the old lists if you ask.

Actually, my plan was to post a question on the Classics forum at imdb, as I am sure someone there has collected the previous lists and squirreled them away.

As I have said now on the incipient 2007 list, thank you, sarmatianus!!!!!
