CCM Presents: The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music

No Michael Card? — 2 years ago

Michael Card has consistently produced great work…. He even went through the entire Bible in song. Very very few other Christian artists can compete with his musical talent and lyric writing. His two disc album “The Ancient Faith” should be in the top 5, at least. Personally, I would put it second after Larry Norman’s “Only Visiting This Planet.”

“The Ancient Faith,” as the title suggests, traces early faith from Eden through Ezekiel and the Babylonian captivity.

Another top 5 quality album from Card is “The Life” which is the story of Jesus’ ministry.

Sorry, Amy Grant is very good, but not #1.

My quibble with the list

There are a couple types of very underepresented music here:

1) Any type of R&B/funk/soul leaning Christian music. I understand why there’s no “black gospel” a la Mahalia Jackson…CCM is focused on CONTEMPORARY music primarily…but doesn’t the music of Commissioned count as “contemporary”? Rance Allen?

2) Not very much music with an “edge” musically. Very safe A/C leaning list…Daniel Amos and the Choir are almost completely non-present despite some high quality releases.
