The A List, 100 Essential films

BTW I can count: Jay Carr and the National Society of Film Critics have (as I’m sure as I would have wanted to as well) slipped in a couple of extras. Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein count as one movie, The Godfather Parts 1 & 2 count as one movie; Ju Dou, Raise the Red Lantern and Red Sorghum count as one; Pather Panchali, Aparajito and The World of Apu count as one; and La Strada and Nights of Cabira count as one. Where I could find a version that had the additional titles as one I used it; and where I couldn’t I added them to the list as separate films. The exception to this was the Fellini films: I chose a version with 8 1/2 as well, because I think that’s a really beaut film.
