Studio Ghibli Movies
Regarding Nausicaa — 2 years ago
Nausicaa was produced by Toei Animation and distributed by Toei Company. Studios buy movies from other studios all the time, though it is traditionally held that the production studio is to recieve credit as a film’s studio. Plus, as you yourself said, Studio Ghibli didn’t even exist in 1984. I will remove it once again.

I vote for it to be added
I’m not going to get in a “Add/Delete” war, but obviously my vote is that this should be added to the list.
Referencing http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/nausicaa/faq.html#studio again, it says that Nausicaa was animated by a contracted company, Topcraft. After the success of Nausicaa, Miyazaki formed Studio Ghibli, with most of the staff and artists from Topcraft coming to Ghibli. Topcraft was either bought out or went out of business at that time.
Nausicaa was not made by Studio Ghibli
And that’s the bottom line. It shouldn’t be added to this list.
Perhaps the argument here should be : would the majority of viewers wishing to see all the Ghibli movies want to see Nausicaa? There is no doubt it is Ghibli-esque since Miyazaki made it. I would also point out that the current DVD releases under the Studio Ghibli label all include Nausicaa in their advertising inserts and trailers as part of the Studio Ghibli collection, and the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo includes Nausicaa in their displays. Quibbling over when Ghibli became a company does not alter the fact that Ghibli is largely Miyazaki, and Nausicca (and Castle of Cagliostro) are Miyazaki. You could argue that Oswald the Rabbit is not Disney because Walt hadnt formed his company when he first drew him, but that didnt stop the Disney company from buying up the rights to Oswald when they got the chance. Perhaps we need one list of all Miyazaki and Ghibli movies and we can all just move our attention to it instead!
