This evening I just did my first poetry reading, of my own Confidences, and I owe everything to Yeats and Rumi. Read them and drink deep from the well of contemplation.

I think I’ll have to pick up the Neruda volume this month, I recently read one of his poems in a collection I was working through. I liked it, a lot.

ah

Neruda is not among my favourites on this list. He does have a lover’s touch, but I think he’s becoming over-rated in North America. I would recommend Borges for deeper spiritual plumbing, and Gabriela for a Chilean poet I find more in tune with the mysteries of the body and love.
