Alfred Hitchcock's "Film Collection"

Revisions — 3 years ago

I deleted “The Mountain Eagle,” as no known copies exist, added “Bon Voyage/Aventure malgache,” and re-ordered the rest for a chronological listing.

I re-added The Mountain Eagle.

Since Hitch did make it, and this is a list of his films – all his films – I’ve added it again.

There’s an interesting story behind the film – it being lost, the controversy over what name it was released in, etc. – and if it isn’t on the list, people won’t be aware of it.

And deleted the propaganda DVD...

...simply because they’re shorts, not films.

I added a note about them under other works, though.

It wasn't me, but...

Looks like Mountain Eagle is gone again.

Seems to be some dispute here whether it should stay or go.

My personal opinion would be:

Stills are not the same thing as actually watching the film. And since this is a website for what has been “consumed” no one will ever be able to finish the list if it remains—or they will have to mark it from only looking at the stills.

However, since it is part of the complete works perhaps a compromise would be to put a note in the description acknowledging the title.

There are notes, and I added a link in the description. Thanks for the idea!

As for The Mountain Ealge, there’s an alternate list of Hitch’s films that doesn’t include it:

If it’s bothering someone that much, perhaps they should adopt that one instead?

This is a list of his complete films – not TV or shorts – and I’m a purist. I really feel it should stay.

You’re not much of a purist if you don’t count shorts.

If you don’t like it, you are more than welcome to start your own list.

I don’t see how that would encourage you to stop thinking of short films as impure.

Thanks

I do think I’ll switch lists. Being able to finish a list is, after all, the most important thing to me. I’m totally happy just adding an asterisk where necessary.

BTW, why is Champagne also missing from the list?
