I reckon give Elvira a couple more years – she’s 36 now, and I think this Lucia with Bonynge might really start big things for her.
Yup, I’ve gone back to Uni to do some postgrad study in opera. Realistically, given that I’m over 30, I’m hoping to come out as a much more versatile opera chorus member who might get the occasional cover or even small role (!!!). But we’ll wait & see.
The first professional thing I ever sang in was the chorus for Le Nozze di Figaro! So do you still stage manage? I get along well with stage managers!

Well, it’s rather obvious that you get along well with stage managers :-P
I would be stage managing right now for a production of Die Fledermaus that my Uni is putting on now, but I’m studying for the year in China. All the opera they have is the screechy chinese variety, which makes me very wistful for a good mozart or strauss or – dare I even let myself? – a puccini.
And I’m so in awe of performers, especially those that actually study music. It has been a huge passion of mine, but it can never really go beyond the listening and appreciating stage.
And actually, there was a performance of Nozze in Hong Kong last month that I ran off to – it was pretty good (fantastic Countess and cherubino) but I’m still in operatic withdrawal.
What voice part do you sing?
