I know!
I agree; this list includes some of the worst and second rate animated films—sequels like The Emperor’s New Groove…give me a break. And they actually put that awful LOTR on here which isn’t even the whole story and is pretty much regarded by any LOTR fan as garbage.
Yeah this list is awful
and sorry if i miss read it but I DID NOT SEE WHISPER OF THE HEART ON THIS LIST!!!!! :O A truly great animated film..
But they probably didnt include it because it’s not really for children..well princess mononoke isnt either..so i really wonder why it’s not there. it is truly an amazing animated movie, it’s so realistic. It’s better than most LIVE ACTION drama/romance movies…

Usefull list...
A good start and USEFULL list. Randy, there must be about 400 animated features released worldwide, “cartoonresearch(dot)com” lists 338, amoungst them my favorite is “Wizards”, a work of art! Those are just the features, including short animated films, perhaps this list could reach as much as 1000?

Seriously…Antz? They’ve GOT to be joking. While we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel, why not include Shark Tale, for chrissake. I can think of about fifty animated features I’d rather see on this list than The Land Before Time.

It’s all about intended audience. While some of these movies might not appeal to you, they are among the best of their tradition and in the market they were made for.

No they aren't...
These aren’t the best in their tradition! This is an interesting list, but it tells me that film critics don’t watch a lot of animated movies. Towards the end, it just kind of peters out, as if they decided to go with a hundred because it’s a nice round number but most people could only name ten or fifteen. This list has a handful of the more interesting movies, but a lot of them are just okay… I’m still keeping it around, but I doubt that I’ll intentionally finish it. I was hoping for a list of gems I’d overlooked.
Still, threre are a couple of pieces on here that are really worthwhile if you’re into art house animation or want to give the kids something different to watch like The Adventures of Prince Achmed, Fantastic Planet, Grave of the Fireflies or The Iron Giant.
Oh, and The Emperor’s New Groove is not a sequel and I don’t think it has one…
