#3 Learn about Lancashire — 5 years ago
One of my goals is to find 43 things (see my list at -http://www.listsofbests.com/list/22426) that I don’t know very well and learn 3 things about each of them.
Recently we ate Lancashire Pasties at Neville’s at the British Pantry and now I am reading “Birdsong” by Sebastian Faulks where he compares the mill towns of France to his home in Lancashire. Since I’m not sure where Lancashire is… it will be one of my 43 things.

Three things I’ve learned about Lancashire
1. Lancashire is a county in the North West of England, bounded to the west by the Irish Sea. It takes its name from the city of Lancaster and is sometimes known as the County of Lancaster
2. Lancashire is widely-known for its eponymous Lancashire Hotpot, a casserole dish traditionally made with lamb. This seems to be what filled our tasty pasties at Neville’s
3. Lancashire in the 19th century was a major centre of industrial activity and hence of wealth. Activities included mining and textile production (particularly cotton), though on the coast there was also fishing
