Some versions were criterion editions and others were not. For consistency sake, I made all versions criterion if available in that collection.

I think it’s best to avoid the Criterion editions because the original list doesn’t specify Criterion and not everyone has access to those. Spinal Tap, for example, is out of print in the Criterion Collection.

Having the criterion version on the list does not mean a person would have to actually watch the criterion DVD. It’s just for list consistency.

(Sorry for the repost. I spoiled the structure of the thread.)

Personally, I don’t like to mark off having watched the Criterion edition of something unless I have watched the Criterion edition specifically. Criterion’s editions tend to have extra material so far and away superior to other labels’ “special” editions that the difference really does make a difference to me.

If you feel this strongly about it, you should start your own list. Those of us who have been here a long time have always used the Criterion versions for consistency, and I don’t think we should change that now. Sorry, but that’s how I feel.
When I have felt differently from others in a list, I have started my own. So, I’m not just dismissing you. I also follow that advise myself.
