Seriously…they tried to ban Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets? Why on earth?
I’ve read several of these books and I’m fine. Two of my all time favorites, The Giver and The Outsiders, I read countless times. The Catcher in the Rye I also thought was amazing.

Harry Potter
I read an article in a newspaper that included interviews with people who wanted Harry Potter banned. Most of the people were highly religious (generally Christian) and espressed a belief that Harry Potter might lead their kids into practicing witchcraft.
My mom, who is a very religious person, wouldn’t let me and my siblings watch movies or read books with magic in them. When I was a kid, I wasn’t allowed to watch “offensive” fare such as the film “Willow.” “The Lord of the Rings” was banned in our household. My brother recorded the old cartoon version of “Lord of the Rings” off TV and when my mom found out, she promptly recorded over it.
