Steven Jay Schneider's 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die - 2nd ed. 2005 - "The Shining" cover

Other Versions — 32 weeks ago

I haven’t seen any other version over amazon or any bookstore, not so sure where these other versions come from and this has been my version sense it came out.

Appreciate this alternative list.

Versions of the book

I haven’t seen the first edition of the book myself, but I did have the list from it, as it was posted on imdb about three years ago. That was the list I started on. Then I got the revised second edition of the book when it came out, and have been working on it since.

The revised, second edition has The Shining cover, while the first edition seems to have Psycho on the cover.

It appears that there is a version of the book ending with Tsotsi (2005) as the last film. I don’t know where that version comes from, but it seems the list is based on it. Recently someone on the original list had announced that there was a new edition of the book and was polling interest in updating the list, which is fine, and there should be a current list, but, I copied that list to this list since I wanted to exactly match the version of the book I have. And I figured others might want that to.

After all, I’ve been working on the list consciously now for three years. My goal for this year was to reach 950, which I just did this week. When I’m done, I’ll worry about the other editions. Or I’ll be ready to die ;)

Hmm.

It is a mighty tomb, i am at a mere 250.

good start

250 is an excellent start—you have many fine films ahead of you, as it is a very fine list.

When I started the list, I had seen about 600 of the films already, many through watching other lists, such as the Ebert books, the Time Out lists, the AFI & BFI lists.

Since then, I decided to watch 100 per year and reached 900 last Jan & to get to 950 this year. It will be hard to finish as some of the films have never been available in tape or DVD (at least that I can find), e.g. Deseret, Wavelength, Me and My Gal. It has been tough slogging to find some of the last 60 or 70 films.

Kino

I guess thats what Kino & Criterion are for..
