gamine humming the songs from "footlight parade"'s "Desert Island Discs"
There’s lots of great music out there to hear, but the last ten years or so, it hasn’t been feasible for me to buy many records, mostly singles a la iTunes. (Or am I the only one old enough to remember when you could buy singles at the record stores??) Were I really on a Desert Island, I’d want to bring as much happy music as possible – so "The Wall" is out.
Also, the last thing on my list is one of my favorite CDs, a hard to find UK import of the greatest hits of Invictus/Hot Wax records, started by Holland-Dozier (songwriters from Motown) after exiting from Berry Gordy’s chains. It includes songs by Honey Cone, Chairmen of the Board, Freda Payne, Burning Ember, 8th Day, Laura Lee and more. Try to get a hold of Freda Payne’s Bring the Boys Back Home today. Chilling.
