Harry Potter is included but If…. isn’t?

What? — 3 years ago

Uh… what about Dazed and Confused?

EW Gets a B+ — 5 years ago

Unlike many EW lists (see “25 Most Controversial Films” earlier this year), this one doesn’t over-use really recent films that won’t hold up. Of films from the last 3 years, Mean Girls, Napoleon Dynamite, Brick, and Friday Night Lights are worthy inclusions – Harry Potter #4 is a little more debatable perhaps since HP#5 may quickly trump it.

While the order of the 50, is, as always, debatable, the list itself seems to contain the usual EW obscure films (Get Real) and clunkers (Just One of the Guys, Can’t Buy Me Love – if you include those, why not Scott Baio’s Zapped! – okay that’s not a fair comparison)

But, as always, there are some notable absences: Saved!, Weird Science, WarGames, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Pleasantville, Porky’s, The Chosen, October Sky, Dick, and The Girl Next Door.
