kalavinka's "Queer Cinema 101"

a primer in gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender films. this is not an actual course syllabus. i’m trying to list films from old hollywood to current films, fiction and documentary, that cover the many facets of queer culture, both as main topic and as subtext.

i wanted the list to have many old hollywood films but as modern films are much more "out" in their tales, the list has more of these type films. films of the past had to work around censors and today’s queer readings of cinema are largely due to decoding. films of the horror genre are heavily coded, especially the classics, though only a couple are listed here.

[a work in progress—once i have seen all of these films i might make some changes]
