Olympic Games: Country ranking by all-time 'per capita' Medals

How sport active and competitive are the nations really? This can be measured by dividing the total amount of Olympic medal winners won (including Athens) by the population (estimated 2004).

1. Liechtenstein only 34000 folk, but 9 medals to date!
5. British Virgin Islands 22000 folk, yet 1 medal achieved
6. Hungary 10 million, 437 medals, 2nd best in central Europe
11. Bahamas 300000 folk, 8 medals, very incredible
13. Australia 20 million, 400 medals, truely a sporty nation
16 Germany 82 million, 1479 medals, big brother (or sister) watching?
27. France 60 million, 630 medals, viola, magnifique!
28 United Kingdom, 60 million, 626 medals, great- on…on…
29 Russia 144 million, 1453 medals with help from USSR era
30. Italy, 58 million, 583 medals. Forte!
31. Canada, 32 million, 325 medals, Wow!
33. Greece, 11 million, 95 medals, inventors of the organisation
35. USA 294 million, 2273 medals, competitive in the top quarter!
