akmenon's "Some of my favourite books"

It is never easy to say what elevates a book from being ‘great’ to a ‘favourite’ in my eyes – it is quite often due to the smallest details that I happen to notice, and sometimes there is no explanation whatsoever apart from the ‘feel’ of the work. The following list is therefore somewhat idiosyncratic at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

1. Those Barren Leaves: A Novel (Coleman Dowell British Literature Series)
by Aldous Huxley

2. Narcissus and Goldmund: A Novel
by Hermann Hesse

3. Eyeless in Gaza
by Aldous Huxley

4. The Heart of the Matter: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) (Penguin Classics Deluxe Editio)
by Graham Greene

5. Love in the Time of Cholera
by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

6. Sons and Lovers (Modern Library Classics)
by D.H. Lawrence

7. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry Into Values
by Robert M. Pirsig

8. Keep the Aspidistra Flying (Harvest Book)
by George Orwell

9. Demian (Dover Thrift Editions)
by Hermann Hesse

10. A Confederacy of Dunces
by John Kennedy Toole
