mizoguchi's "200+ Essential "Foreign" films"

Add to my lists | Print this list

I use the term "foreign" to mean not in English, as this is an English-language site, and the term is generally quite quickly understood, though of course really it’s absurd and not one i’m keen on. For instance in the UK, Welsh language films have been described as in a foreign language though Welsh is the native language of Britain

Well i’ve done this quite quickly, with no preparation, so don’t read too much into the order. I’ve tried to ensure a mix of popular and more demanding arthouse favourites, and not overload the list with any director, period or country- i hope there’s a reasonable balance.
