Metal-Rules.com's "Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums"

Add to my lists | Print this list

Below are what we, the staff of Metal-Rules.com, have collectively decided are the best and most influential heavy metal albums of all time. We scored a list of some 400-500 albums to determine the top 100. There is absolutely nothing scientific about the ranking that appears below; it is simply the collective opinion of a group of true metalheads. Not everyone will agree with the list or all the items in it, and that’s fine, we make no apologies for having an opinion and sharing it with you! This is not meant to be the only definitive list in existence, but it does reflect the common interests of everyone who writes for this webzine as of September 2003.

Worst List Ever — 17 weeks ago

This is perhaps the worst list ever. Paranoid at 24? F*ck off ,It is the greatest metal album of all time. Reign In Blood top 5? Damn good album but there could of been plenty others. ACDC aren’t metal. Rust in Peace 16? Motley Crue, DIO etc above them? This list is obviously made by Metallica fanboys

Umm — 17 weeks ago

This list only has a very narrow style to it. And please! 1984 by Van Halen?! That’s not metal – it’s like, top 40, cutesy stuff. A lot of this is good, but there’s not enough variation – how about some grindcore? black metal? industrial metal, etc?
Most influential – in a list of 100, and there’s not a Mayhem album?

Good list. — 42 weeks ago

This is a great list. It includes all the great classics such as “Master of Puppets”, “Appetite for Distruction”, “Paranoid” and such others. I like this list.

The Black Album — 49 weeks ago

In my opinion The Black Album is the top album, but I dont understand your whole Sell-out theory with it. I cant name a bad song on that album.
1. Enter Sandman
2. Sad But True
3. Holier Than Thou
4. The Unforgiven
5. Wherever I May Roam
6. Don’t Tread On Me
7. Through The Never
8. Nothing Else Matters
9. Of Wolf and Man
10. The God That Failed
11. My Friend Misery
12. The Struggle Within

they’re all good

Metallica/Metallica — 1 year ago

Any thoughts on why Metallica/Metallica/”The Black Album” would have been overlooked? Was there some kind of sell-out backlash against it? It would be my #1. It was my point of entry to the world of metal. Comments?

I knew I wasn't really a metalhead.. — 2 years ago

but I had no idea HOW little a metal fan I was until now. Yikes…oh well, at least I’ve never bought a “Winger” T-shirt :)
