bartzturkeymom's "Learn three things about 43 things"
One of my goals on 43Things is to make a list of 43 things i know very little about, and then learn at least 3 things about each of them

One of my goals is to find 43 things (see my list at -http://www.listsofbests.com/list/22426) that I don’t know very well and learn 3 things about each of them.
Recently we ate Lancashire Pasties at Neville’s at the British Pantry and now I am reading “Birdsong” by Sebastian Faulks where he compares the mill towns of France to his home in Lancashire. Since I’m not sure where Lancashire is… it will be one of my 43 things.

Three things I’ve learned about Lancashire
1. Lancashire is a county in the North West of England, bounded to the west by the Irish Sea. It takes its name from the city of Lancaster and is sometimes known as the County of Lancaster
2. Lancashire is widely-known for its eponymous Lancashire Hotpot, a casserole dish traditionally made with lamb. This seems to be what filled our tasty pasties at Neville’s
3. Lancashire in the 19th century was a major centre of industrial activity and hence of wealth. Activities included mining and textile production (particularly cotton), though on the coast there was also fishing

A friend of mine mentioned the other day that on the French Revolution Calendar, it was Plane Tree Day since each day was dedicated to a tool, animal, mineral or plant. Then today I was reading “Birdsong” by Sebastian Faulks (set in France in the early 1900’s) and it mentioned plane trees as well. Since I have no idea what a plane tree is… it will be one of my 43 things.

Three things I’ve learned about plane trees
1. In the Americas, plane trees are known as sycamores
2. Martha Stewart uses a sycamore for her letterhead as there is a large sycamore on the Turkey Hill property which she now has up for sale
3. They are all large trees to 30–50 m tall, deciduous (except for P. kerrii), and are mostly found in riparian or other wetland habitats in the wild, though proving drought tolerant in cultivation away from streams

I wanted to enter a writing challenge and the basis was a painting by Botero. Since I knew nothing of him, I thought it wise to learn before I wrote my short story.

Three things I’ve learned about Botero
1. A living Colombian artist, friends with Gabriel Garcia Márquez and Diego Rivera
2. schooled in Spain, France and Italy, he has created many paintings based on works by other famous artists such as daVinci’s Mona Lisa, but he has employed his signature technique of inflating the subjects to the point of corpulence
3. He recently painted a series of 50 pieces based on the tragedies in the Abu Ghraib prison that are on a worldwide tour
