Hitchcock took the ideas for many of his movies from novels and plays. This is a list of each of those movies, followed by the work it was based on.

In an interview, Hitchcock said he would usually read the book once and never consult it again while making the movie – which is probably why some of these films are extremely loosely based on the original.
