UNESCO's "Natural Heritage Sites"

Add to my lists | Print this list

This is the list of all the 166 natural and 25 mixed properties in the world. Ordered by country and date of subscription to the list. Note that some of the sites should be avoided since tourism would be harmful to the natural environment being preserved there.

Where the trans-boundary sites are on the list — 1 year ago

The Sundarbans I’ve only listed “in” India.

The old growth forest of Belovezhskaya Pushcha / Bialowieza Forest I’ve listed “in” Belarus since the protected area is about ten times larger on the Belarus side.

The Kvarken Archipelago / The High Coast I’ve listed “in” Finland

Mont Perdu & the Pyrénées I’ve listed “in” Spain, since Mt. Perdu’s summit is in Spain and since it’s easier to reach it from Spain, as the northern side is much steeper.

The Uvs Nuur Basin I’ve listed “in” mongolia

Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst
I’ve listed “in” Slovakia.

Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls, I’ve listed “in” Zimbabwe

Iguazú Falls I’ve listed “in” Brazil

Kluane / Wrangell-St Elias / Glacier Bay / Tatshenshini-Alsek National parks I’ve listed as one site , as the world heritage property is, and in the US rather than Canada.

Representation — 1 year ago

As with the European list, I want to try and not to over represent sites. Representing natural properties many times on a list is even more ridiculous than cultural ones, since they obviously don’t “belong to” one state or another.

Please report all edits of the list so that representation is transparent.
