AIDS? Malaria? Other communicable, and underfunded/neglected diseases, mainly in tropical areas?

Homophobia? Religious fundamentalism? Illiteracy? Lack of access to basic needs (other than food) – shelter, water, health care? Gender inequality? Antipersonnel land mines? And so on.

I’d put every single one of those above “animal rights”, btw, because I put “human rights” ahead of it (has something to do with consciousness vs. a lack of consciousness, I suspect.)

Ideas for a rating system — 3 years ago

Some of the things that one should take into account when assessing the importance of a particular issue are:

  • Gravity—the degree to which the issue affects people.
  • Urgency—the time dependence of the issue.
  • Number of people affected

But that’s the idea. I’m interested in promoting discussion of which issues people think is most important.
