Miles Franklin Literary Award (Australian Fiction)The Miles Franklin Literary Award, Australia’s oldest and most prestigious literary award, was first awarded in 1957. It is an annual award, established with a bequest from Miles Franklin (author of ‘My Brilliant Career’). It is awarded to the novel published in the previous calendar year which is of the highest literary merit and which presents Australian life in any of its phases. The award was shared in 1962 and 2000, and there was no award in the years 1973, 1983 and 1988. (found at: http://www.trust.com.au/philanthropy/awards/miles_franklin/past_winners/)
