It’s been my hobby/passion for the past seven years to learn and read all I can about dog behavior. This is my list of my favorite/most recommended books on dog training/behavior/general info. I prob. missed some great ones or haven’t gotton to them yet, but this is it so far :) Enjoy! Arf!!!
1. "The Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson *I love this book so much I refer to it as a dog owner as "the Bible".
2. "Don’t Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor
3. "Beyond Basic Dog Training" by Diane L. Bauman (for people who want to do competitive obedience, or just have an incredibly well-trained dog!) I follow her approach religiously and it WORKS! :)
4. "Tao of Puppies" by Krista Cantrell
5. "Cesar’s Way" by Cesar Millan (I know to some he’s controversial, but I AM the pack leader in my house and after years of doing dog rescue see the problems it causes when people don’t know how to be a good leader/teacher to their pets. He’s doing something right, and so am I!)
6. "Planet Dog" by Sandra & Harry Choron (lots of fun stuff and lists)
7. "The Pawprints of History" by Stanley Coren (great read, be sure to read the chapter about Frederick of Prussia and his italian greyhounds- fascinating!)
8."The Reign of the Greyhound" by Cynthia A. Branigan (if you like history this is also great along with #7)
9."If Only You Knew How Much I Smell You: True Portraits of Dogs" by Valerie Shaff & Roy Blount
10. "The Other End of the Leash" by Patricia McConnell
