Some cities and prefectures share the same name (like Osaka, Nagasaki, Kyoto,...) and the places on this list were used for both purposes on 43places (but mostly as the city). So to make it more clear which is which I’ve split them up. These prefectures have the Japanese ‘ken’ or ‘fu’ suffix. An exception is Tokyo, as the city limits are equal to the prefecture limits, so it’s the same place.
I’ve updated some of this list so everything is pointing at prefectures now instead of cities.
