David Mihalcik's "My 10 favorite DC restaurants"

Add to my lists | Print this list

I don’t think these are objectively the best, but I like them a lot and have been to each at least two or three times. I’ll probably change this as I get around to visiting more places. Also, I’m not including chains. I’ve given them their own list.

This is David Mihalcik's list. Only David Mihalcik can edit it. You can make your own version of this list.

yargh, I am now a member of the silver spring community — 19 weeks ago

Okay, after living in Wheaton for a year, I am now fully ensconced in the silver spring restaurant goodness. Also good, but not making the list: the thai place, adega wine cellars, eitherone of the ethiopian places, and most of the places in Wheaton, for that matter, including good Scottish and Asian food.

To keep this list to 10, I’ve most notably dropped some Andres properties, Cafe Atlantico and Oyamel, both of which are excellent (Atlantico’s brunch is a must for visitors, for sure), as well as some other places I just don’t get to any more, like 7 seas in Rockville.

okay, only 3 are actually in the city — 47 weeks ago

I think this number will increase. However, as I’m currently living in Wheaton, expect to see more in the Wheaton/Silver Spring area.

There are so many I need to go back to... — 2 years ago

As part of the rules for myself with this list, I’m only including places I’ve been multiple times. That means that Bebo Trattoria and Ray’s The Classics are currently absent, although I may be adding them soon. I need to eat out more. Which is annoying, since I’m trying also to save money and eat out less ;-)

Galileo and Oyamel close temporarily — 2 years ago

Galileo is closed for rennovation – and Roberto Donna moved down to the space Oyamel has vacated to make Bebo Trattoria. Oyamel should reopen in the Spring in Gallery Place. Until then, I’ll put the Rockville Seven Seas up, since I eat there pretty often.

El Pollo Rico < Senor Chicken — 2 years ago

I’m replacing El Pollo Rico (Central American rotisserie) with Senor Chicken (Peruvian style), since I like the chicken just as good, and prefer fried yucca to french fries, at least for now. El Pollo Rico is a bit cheaper, though.

Galileo (x4) >> Olazzo — 2 years ago

I’m replacing Olazzo with Galileo, as I just went to the Galileo Grill, and it kicks ass. Galileo offers food at all tiers – from cheap grill food on special occasions, up to as expensive as you want at the lab. However, Olazzo still has some excellent Italian – and it a lot of fun, with the fake fire…

hmm... — 2 years ago

I finally ate at Two Amy’s, and I’ll probably add that somewhere near the top sometime soon.
