Perlle's "Authors listed in 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die"

Add to my lists | Print this list

There are over 500 individual authors represented in the book 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, so this list is a way for me to keep track of how many authors’ works I have read—as opposed to how many individual works I have read.

One restriction: authors who I have read are not checked off unless I have read one of the works listed in the book.

If a book has more than one author, I have listed the first author listed. It’s not possible to cross reference here, so it’s the best solution I could come up with.

Listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Note: If you copy this list, please, at least change the description. Don’t just take what I’ve written as your own. Thanks. Perlle

The surname is Jelinek, not Jelenik.

This list is great, by the way!

#420 — 4 years ago

Are you sure that Shakespeare (#420) is on the list? I thought much had been made about his absence (he didn’t write books, apparently). If I’ve missed him, what work is on the list for?

Duplicates — 4 years ago

More duplicates: #51 Karen Blixen and # 119 Isak Dinesen are the same person, and she wrote Out of Africa.

Karen something-something-something Dinesen married and became the Baroness Karen von Blixen. But she wrote her books under the pen name of Isak Dinesen, and that is the name you see on the spines of all her works. I’m not sure why 1001 Books confused things by mentioning both her pen and real names.

Duplicates — 4 years ago

Both 70 and 71 are Burroughs, so keep 71 and delete 70.

It's finally finished! — 4 years ago

It should be accurate, but if you notice anything that seems strange just let me know.

I noticed... — 4 years ago

There are 2 duplicates: #135 and #136 are both Lawrence Durrell, and #146 and #147 are both Peter Esterhazy.

Also, the Graham Greene pictured is the actor, not the author. Don’t know if that really makes a huge difference to anyone.

Nice list!

Hi, you had Anonymous listed at 17. I was just wondering what the book was?

Grr — 4 years ago

I wish there was a better way of marking lists like this…

I’m not “meeting” the person.

So I guess I’ll have to mark each that I’ve read as “want to meet.”

But the percentage will stay at 0, so that’s not really a solution either.
