Shannon's "Short List of "Classics" Worth Reading"
Here is my definition of a classic: A work of literature that is generally recognized as representative of a particular period of history, school of thought or genre. That means a classic doesn’t necesarily have to be that old (all books on this list are pre-1975), although a test of time is usually required for the general recognition part. This is an extremely personal list of my recommendations to start a classics reading list. My list is more accessible than most "great books" reading lists because it is a) shorter and b) every book on it is enjoyable to read just for itself, regardless of whether it is really a “classic” or not.
