frontiermidwife's "Books that I won't give away"

Add to my lists | Print this list

I am sorting through my books in order to get rid of most of them, but some books I keep picking up and saying, "No, not this one." Maybe I should just get rid of them because nearly all can be had easily from libraries, Amazon, eBay, Bookcrossing, etc if I didn’t own them but wanted them again. Still, I’ll be keeping them for now.

I love all her books, own all and won’t give any up. I think more women should know her work. She writes gentle comedies of manners set in post-war England. The characters are genteel women, often academcs and spinsters. Becuase I am both of those, I love reading these charming stories.

I took my 1st edition copy up to Kathleen Norris at the SLC library last year when she was a featured speaker. In a short time I told her how I knew this book with my soul. She inscribed it, “To L. who knows the country.” I will save this book from a fire.
