Empire's 250 Greatest Films You've Never Seen

Add to my lists | Print this list

Taken from the Australian edition of Empire, October 2007 issue.

"..a list of 250 films split equally across 10 genres. They are the forgotten gems, the undiscovered classics, the shoulda-been-hits-but-weren’t – the films, in other words, you ignore every time you walk into the DVD store. Frankly, you don’t know what you’ve been missing. Some you will have heard of, others you won’t. Most are available on DVD, some may require you dusting off the old VHS player, while others may necessitate a bit of serching on the internet. One thing is certain though: you’ve got a lot of watching ahead of you."

yes and no — 3 years ago

152 I haven’t seen, 47 I’m glad I saw, 40 I’m indifferent to and 11 I wish I hadn’t seen (Explorers? Quick Change? REALLY?). Some good stuff in there, but an awful lot of them are ones I’ll never be interested in. Empire’s lists are usually pretty terrible, though.

what's to complain about? — 3 years ago

There are some GREAT movies in this list, there are some GOOD movies, and there are some STINKERS—and that’s how you define your own taste. I’ll happily review a list 100x longer than this list with the hope that it’ll recommend to me 3 good choices.

Lots of not so great films i wouldn’t recommend you see- and others i’ve no intention of seeing. Empire keeps dumbing down.
