Gospel Music Association's "Dove Award Hard Music Album of the Year Winners"

Add to my lists | Print this list

Since 1969, the Dove Awards have been presented to those recognized by Christian music artists, producers, and other industry insiders. In 1976, recognizing the increasing diversity of musical styles utilizing Christian lyrics, the Gospel Music Association broke apart their "Album of the Year" category into several smaller, more niched genre categories. This category, however, wasn’t created until 1989. In 1993, 1997, and 1998 it was not awarded as there weren’t enough eligible entries (!)

Why nothing in 1993, 1997, and 1998? — 5 years ago

They say there was nothing “eligible” but I see quite a few hard/metal releases in those years. Surely ONE of these was worthy of the Dove?:

1993
DIEHAPPY- Intense Live
GLOBALWAVESYSTEM-Life Equals Death
TOURNIQUET – Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance
GUARDIAN – Miracle Mile

1997
BRIDE-The Jesus Experience
TRAININGFORUTOPIA-The Falling Cycle
VARIOUSARTISTS Songs from the Penalty Box (Tooth and Nail Records)
ETERNALDECISION – Eternal Decision

1998
CRASHDOG-8 Years to Nowhere
BALLYDOWSE-The Land, The Bread and the People
THEBLAMED-Again
LANNYCORDOLA-Salvation Medicine Show
GUARDIAN – The Yellow And Black Attack Is Back!
BOANERGES – SenĂ¡les Antes Del Fin
SONS OF THUNDER – Metal Praise

Seems like the folks at the Doves don’t try very hard sometimes….
