pomonomo2003's "Best of Several Schools of Plato Interpretation"01-10: Plato as ‘Dogmatist’ Always keep in mind that often there are no hard and fast lines between different schools of interpretation. For instance, almost everyone pays attention to the dramatic elements of Plato’s text, even if only to tell us to ignore these elements! Also, there is a great deal of similarity between some Christians and some Neoplatonists. And both Marxists and Straussians try, in their very different ways, to pay attention to the political resonances in the Platonic texts. Lastly, I want to mention that postmoderns are usually very pleased to take Plato as a dogmatist in order to denounce him all the more. |
