The editors of the American Heritage® dictionaries have compiled a list of 100 words they recommend every high school graduate should know.

Just deleting words screws up the list for everyone else who has the list.

I sort of attached myself to this list even though I know I’ll likely use none of these words in daily conversation. I love languages, so I suppose that was part of the draw for me. I’m down to “tautology”, “taxonomy”, and “unctious”. Have those written down to memorize tonight and then I’m done! I’m really just excited to finish a list with more than 10 things on it.

I’ve got a year left, and I got a 51% with a few more that I’m 40-50% sure on. Looks like, come graduation, I should be in good shape if I keep my eye on this list.

I’m a 3rd year Journalism and Political Science student at university…

I couldn’t even make 50 per cent!

I’m going to set this as a personal challenge to myself to learn all these words in two months time.

Yay. I like vocabulary words. 93% and I haven’t graduated high school yet. And most of these words ARE useful. Maybe not in conversation, but in literature and science certainly. Just sayin. :)

And I won’t check off any more until I use them in a sentence, but the ones I do know I have found reason to use, on a fairly regular basis. I don’t mean to be pretentious, but my family is very blue-stocking. .

you should spend your time learning a new language instead of words youll never need to know, kowtow? well it just took me 2 seconds to look it up and guess what? Ill never use it again. Nor would any one know what the hell I was talking about if I did.
