This is not really considered a top 1,000 films list in the traditional sense. These are merely the first 1,000 films that every film buff should see. I’m currently working on a second list for this same topic of another 1,000 films.

Subbed out Steven Spielberg’s “Duel” for Bernardo Bertolucci’s “Before the Revolution.” Also removed Stan Brakhage’s “Black Ice” for Oliver Hirschbigel’s “Downfall.”

I note the absence of 2 by Mizoguchi- Chikamatsu Monogatari and Osaka Elegy- which i think should be included, but presume Sansho, Ugetsu and Story of Late Chrysanthemums (at least) are still to come. And you seem to like Brakhage- more than some earlier shorts by Len Lye and Norman Mclaren and European avant-garde.
