Danny Peary's "Alternate Oscars": Best Picture nominees (The 1940's)
These are the movies that film critic Danny Peary nominated for “best picture” from 1940 to 1949 in his book “Alternate Oscars” from 1993. I’ve put the winners at the head of each year, with the non-winning nominees following in alphabetical order. (Note that "The Maltese Falcon" refers to the 1941, though I’ve included the link to the 3-disc collection with the two earlier versions. Also, the double-feature "They Live by Night"/"Side Street" is included for the former movie.)
