sazrap's "sazrap's ultimate lifetime reading list #1"

Add to my lists | Print this list

This list is a compilation of several different published lists, including Modern Library, Radcliff, Oprah, Fadiman’s, Pulitzer, and the BBC’s Big Read, as well as books that I have found of personal interest. I will not be adding to this list once I am done entering the full list, but I may create another as more books come to my attention. They are alphabetized (more or less)by author except where major genre changes occur.

This list seems comprehensive, but it actually “glosses over” quite a lot. “The complete works of Shakespeare” for instance—that’s virtually meaningless. To read JUST to read doesn’t make enough sense to me. All of these things, esp noted in collection, are in fact GREATER than their component parts, and are, indisputeably, worth mentioning individually.
