Countries with American military bases and installationsThis is a list I had to research as I could not find a comprehensive single resource. "According to the Defense Department’s annual "Base Structure Report" for fiscal year 2003, which itemizes foreign and domestic U.S. military real estate, the Pentagon currently owns or rents 702 overseas bases in about 130 countries and has another 6,000 bases in the United States and its territories." While some of these are temporary facilities, I had trouble even coming up with most of the supposed 130 countries until I added countries for which there are military overseas housing allowances as I assume that if military personnel are living in a country then it is likely the USA has facilities there, rental or otherwise. Also, it is likely that foreign territories are counted as country for the purposes of reporting, which is the reason for this long list. Besides the report source, for research purposes I used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_military_bases Anyone who has served or worked at overseas institutions not listed, feel free to contribute additional countries to the list.
