Australian Children's Book of the Year Award - Book of the Year / Older Readers
The first Australian Children’s Book of the Year Award was made in 1946. At that time and until 1952, there was but a single category of award.
In 1952 a category for the picture books was created, a Younger Readers category in 1982, the Eve Pownall Award for Non-Fiction in 1993, and the Early Childhood in 2001.
This award became the Book of the Year: Older Readers in 1987.
There were no awards given in 1947, 1949 & 1975.
There were ties in 1953, 1962 & 1994.
