Australian Children's Book of the Year Award - Junior Book of the Year Award / Younger Readers

The first Australian Children’s Book of the Year Award was made in 1946. At that time and until 1952, there was but a single category of award.

In 1952 a category for the picture books was created, a Younger Readers category in 1982, the Eve Pownall Award for Non-Fiction in 1993, and the Early Childhood in 2001.

This award became the Book of the Year Award: Younger Readers in 1987.
