Publisher's Weekly Best Comics of 2005Sales of comics and graphic novels in 2005 continued to show strong growth across all comics categories, led once again by the surging popularity of manga. Superhero action comics, driven by movies like Sin City and Fantastic Four, and even art comics, often reviewed by major mainstream publications, all showed sales growth. The year also marked the launch of Tokyopop’s ambitious original English language manga program; and the news that Stephen King, Jonathan Lethem and other prominent prose authors are enthusiastically signing on to write their own graphic novels. 2005 was a very good year indeed for book format comics. |
