Added 'Grave of the Fireflies' — 1 year ago

This is one of the saddest movies I’ve ever seen. Interestingly, my six year old son was the? most affected. He was balling his eyes out by the end of it. If you haven’t seen this, do so!

Added 'Good Luck Chuck' — 1 year ago

This was an absolutely hilarious movie, but I wouldn’t watch around the munchkins…

Added 'Police Academy' — 1 year ago

Still funny after all these years.

Added 'Bran Nu Dae' — 1 year ago

Bran Nu Dae is an Australian musical comedy about a young aboriginal boy who runs away from a Catholic Boarding School in Perth and hitches his way back home to Broome. When a movie stars Geoffrey Rush, Ernie Dingo, Jessica Mauboy and Magda Szubanski, you know you are in for a great ride and I absolutely was not disappointed. I give this movie a 5/5 and highly, highly, highly recommend it.

Added 'The Book of Eli' and 'The Girl Next Door' — 1 year ago

These were both excellent movies. The Book of Eli is a post-apocalyptic movie in which a lone man travels across a devastated America in order to preserve the last Bible in existence. You don’t have to be a Christian to enjoy this movie (I’m not). There is plenty of action for the guys and love (of a sort) for the girls and the central themes (a world gone mad, religious wars taken too far, the pursuit of power and the struggle to preserve knowledge)reverberate regardless of religious affiliation.

The blurb on The Girl Next Door reads like a cheap porno, but in actual fact this is a decent family film (though some scenes require parental discretion). This is sweet and funny film about coming of age and changing your life. Worth watching.

Added 'Australia' — 3 years ago

I was worried this wouldn’t live up to the hype. No need for concern. Nicole Kidman surpasses herself in this film and the lad who played Nulla will certainly go far. This film is worth every penny!

Added 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' — 3 years ago

This was an excellent movie. Set mostly in the courtroom, but with a few really scary bits. Emily Rose is played by the same chick that plays Dexter’s sister in Dexter the TV series, and she gives an impressive performance. Not easy to play a possessed person convincingly, but she manages to pull it off.

This movie is based on a true story.

Added '300' — 3 years ago

I love the cinematography in this film. The way it slows down and speeds up, and switches from action to voice-over, gives the movie a surreal quality. It has the feel of sitting around a camp-fire listening to our elders while the described events unfold in our mind.

Added 'The Day After Tomorrow' and 'Das Boot' — 3 years ago

The Day After Tomorrow

Has all the elements of a typical disaster movie, but a good film just the same.

Das Boot

A look at life in the German subs during WWII. Best watched in the original German with English subtitles – watching with English dubbing spoils the atmosphere. This is a slow but very compelling movie.

Added 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' — 3 years ago

This was better than ‘Dead Man’s Chest’ but not as good as ‘Curse of the Black Pearl’.
