Shannon's "Metafiction: A Reading List"
Metafiction is a type of fiction that self-consciously addresses the devices of fiction, exposing the fictional illusion. They include novels about writers creating a story, readers reading a story, containing a book within a book, where the narrator is also the author or where the author appears as a character, non-linear novels, parallel novels, and works otherwise addressing the conventions of story-telling.
Note: With some exceptions, short story collections, young adult fiction, and series have been eliminated if so identified. Also, I have striven to include high-quality books only.
