The British New Wave is a name given to a movement in British cinema during the late 1950s and early 1960s characterized by social realism, the working class, kitchen sink drama, use of a black-and-white cinma vrit style, and often featuring "angry young men." This movement was foreshadowed by the earlier Free Cinema trend working class-focused documentaries.
