I have yet to understand why people here complain about the placement of certain films on the TSPDT list. This is not one person’s opinion, but a consensus of over 1,000 – mostly highly regarded – top film lists created by professional critics, filmmakers, etc. The lists come from widely different sources, eras, etc. It should be merely interesting to see where all these films fall when all those opinions are combined into one. Arguing or complaining about the placement of a film is like arguing with a statistic rather than a person. I.e., totally irrational.

I ain’t so sure Casablanca sits well in the 25th spot, espectially not under vertigo and Space Odyssey, both of which I have seen, and Kubrick a huge fan I am. In most top movie lists Casablance is in the top 3. I think the difficult part about this list that you have difficulty sorting Great Films with Cult Classics, or popular films in small pops. Space Odyssey, cult film, and I think 75% of the people can watch it and not understand it. Someone else was posting Dr.Strangelove, I have seen it, but in contemporary times, its value is lessened. Being John Malkovich, great movie, but also a cult film. I would take the top 100 movies by each decade start with the 30s, 70 years of films, then fill the last 300 with pre 1930s and other great films that got the cut

Replaced the reference to the double feature Cat People/Curse of the Cat People with a reference to Cat People only to match the source list.
Oh, I didn’t realize anyone could make updates on these lists. Maybe I’ll work on it some tomorrow.
