National Geographic Traveler's "109 Best Historic Destinations" (2008)
"Historic Destinations Rated" by National Geographic Traveler magazine. This is the result of a survey they organized, rating places based on 6 criteria:
- environmental and ecological quality
- social and cultural integrity
- condition of historic buildings and archaeological sites
- aesthetic appeal
- quality of tourism management
- outlook for the future
Exact scores can be found on the NGT online list, many of the entries have the same score so we just keep the order in which they appear on the NGT listing. Please do not make changes in this list, if you do not agree with the order/places, you can create your own version.
Note: The NGT sometimes lists ambiguous places, this list tries to include the most relevant one. One place had to be created in 43places – #105 Route 15 was created under the starting point given by NGT.
